Image of The Week
This is an image of University City aide Paul McCullough. This image was published in the Indianapolis News on June 4, 1909, the day before the start of the Aero Club of America's national championship balloon race. The McCullough and his pilot partner John Berry were among the last to arrive at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where the event was hosted and started. They worked into the evening to assemble and inflate their balloon, the University City, as well as organize their tools and provisions for the trip. This was the team that was eventually recognized as the winner of the national championship race.
The Indianapolis News also published photos of other pilots and their assistants on June 4. Below are links to those photos as well as others of the competitors that were published in the Indianapolis Star the same day.
