Image of The Week
Joe Dawson had three siblings - his older brother Charles, younger brother Albert and the baby of the family, sister Reign who was born in the 20th Century. Albert Martin Dawson was born December 18, 1895 in Chicago. In the Dawson family's greatest tragedy Albert lost his life in World War I near Chateau Thierry, France on August 1, 1918. According to Larry Snyder (Charles' grandson) who provided this image and information, a Lieutenant Horine was with Albert when he was hit by a machine gun round. He died the next day.
In this image Albert is pictured with Charles on the last time they saw each other in October 1917. Albert then left for training camp in Waco, Texas before being sent to France. Check out this 1913 image of Albert.
Check out my article about Joseph Crooke Dawson the great auto racing champion - a man about which too little has been recorded.
