Lewis Strang Obits

Thanks to Ken Parrotte for these obituary articles for Lewis Strang, the first pole sitter for the Indianapolis 500 in 1911. It was just a matter of weeks later that Strang lost his life in a reliability run in July 1911. The reliability runs, such as the Glidden Tour, were not races, but instead were product demonstrations to Illustrate quality of a manufacturer's automobiles. It was ironic that Strang, who was widely regarded as one of America's top race drivers, should perish in a reliability run and not a high-speed competition event. These articles provide insight to Strang's life beyond race cars. He was the quintessential example of a person who succeeded in life through hard work and rugged individualism.
