Image of The Week
This image was first published in the April 17, 1910 Indianapolis Star and ran in support of an article written by Indianapolis Motor Speedway Director of Contests Ernie Moross, who is pictured in the car. The automobile is a Marmon, probably the Marmon 32 Speedster. Moross' article concerned the development of the new Marmon Wasp racer which would eventually win the the first Indianapolis 500.
The photo is clear evidence of the company, Nordyke & Marmon, leveraging their investment in auto racing for commercial success. The cutline appearing under the image read:
"The Marmon Automobile Company has produced the first model of their Speedway cars. E.A. Moross is driving the machine."
