The First Pagoda

One of the great symbols of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is what locals and fans worldwide refer to as "the Pagoda." The reference is not exclusively to the current 13 story steel and glass structure that is more "pagoda inspired" than an edifice that makes a serious attempt to emulate the classic Japanese design.

One of the great automobile competitions of the early twentieth century was the Fairmount Park road races near Philadelphia from 1908 through 1911. The 1910 edition was won by Len Zengle in a Chadwick racer. Automobile pioneer Lee Chadwick celebrates with his driver, Len Zengle.
