Baltimore-Washington Speedway

This image is a mid-race shot from the Baltimore-Washington board track speedway in Laurel, Maryland. The 1925 Indianapolis 500 champion Peter DePaolo won the 250-mile contest. The car was undoubtedly the same Duesenberg he drove to victory in the "500" just weeks earlier in May. Note that DePaolo's average speed for the Laurel race was 123.220 mph - a full 22 mph faster than his average speed for winning the "500" that same year.

Thanks to the Paul Sheedy Collection for this photo. Sheedy's margin notes indicate that the track measured one and one eighth-mile with 42 degrees of banking in the turns. Sheedy also underscores that the facility went bankrupt and only held a single American Automobile Association race.
