Image of The Week
This advertisement appeared in the August 15, 1909, Indianapolis Star. The occasion was coverage of the first motorcycle race meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
There can be little doubt that Indian Motorcycle was the premier brand of bike - at least for racing. As you can see from the ad they were the dominant manufacturer of the Speedway meet. It also notes the company's success in the recent Cleveland-to-Indianapolis endurance run that was part of the week of motorcycle activities. A similar ad ran prior to the Speedway contests and focused on the endurance run.
