Harvey Bernard

This image first appeared in the August 14, 1909 Indianapolis Star. The occasion was coverage of the first motorcycle race meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
 
This picture appeared the morning after what was originally planned as the first day of the race meet but it was postponed by rain. Amateur Harvey Bernard is captured in this promotional shot. Bernard had won a race during the Algonquin Hill Climb of 1908 and so was obviously a rider of some skill. He was a Harley-Davidson rider.
