Image of The Week
This image of the Stoddard-Dayton team's race driver, Bert Miller, was originally published in the August 19, 1909, Indianapolis News. It was part of the coverage of the first auto races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The picture was taken during practice for the upcoming event weekend August 18, 1909. Miller enjoyed little success in the three-day race meet but Stoddard-Dayton did pick up a one-two finish in a 50-mile contest conducted on the second day. Teammates Carl Wright and Louis Schwitzer scored in that event. Schwitzer also won the very first race of the meet, the first race in Speedway history.
