Image of The Week
This image is of Johnny Aitken hustling a National Motor Vehicle Company six cylinder stock car as he storms up the Fort George Hill on Staten Island. This image is from a photograph published in the May 2, 1909 Indianapolis Star to complement an article reporting on that year's Fort George Hill Climb event which entailed several races as well as straightaway time trials. Aitken won a race for six-cylinder cars - a rare breed in those days. Fellow National driver Charlie Merz drove for National in the time trials.
