Marmons in Munsey Tour

This very brief item was published in the September 19, 1909 Indianapolis Star. It concerns the entry of two Indianapolis-built Marmon automobiles being in a pair of endurance runs. One, from Washinton D.C. to Boston was called the Munsey Tour. The other was the Kansas City Star reliability contest.

Both Marmon cars had already been through the marquee endurance event, the Glidden Tour, earlier in the year. Legendary driver Ray Harroun was to drive in the Munsey Tour and Harry "Sunshine" Stillman was assigned the the Kansas City Star contest which was to take a 1,100 mile route through Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Both events were sanctioned under the same rules as the Glidden Tour. National Motor Vehicle Company with driver Johnny Aitken also announced intentions to enter the Munsey Tour.
