Image of The Week

This image, reportedly taken on August 23, 1910, comes from the Wyoming State Archive collection. It is of driver Harry Ball and riding mechanic James Allen in a 55 horsepower Apperson Jackrabbit, #4. Ball is seen being certified as the winner of the Frontier Days 200 Mile Race.
Historian James Fuller originally submitted this photo, and a second historian, Robert Rampton, provided the identification. The venue was the four-mile dirt track at Cheyenne, Wyoming. The track operated from 1909 to 1919. Check out additional images on First Super Speedway.
