Walter Davidson

This image of noted motorcycle racer and entrepreneur Walter Davidson was published in the May 30, 1909, Indianapolis Star to report on the famous riders expected to compete at the then-new Indianapolis Motor Speedway later that summer at the track's August 1909 motorcycle meet. Davidson was one of the founders of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company. The Speedway was finishing its construction work at the time of this photo.
 
Davidson participated with other Harley-Davidson factory riders in a 388-mile Cleveland-to-Indianapolis endurance ride that supported the Speedway's competitive events later that same week.
