Wag Again

 This 1926 image is of Fred Wagner, one of the top American Automobile Association (AAA) officials of the era. Wagner was the first starter of the Indianapolis 500 and flagged for every Long Island Vanderbilt Cup except the inaugural in 1904. In these early days, a race starter was one of the most powerful officials of auto races.
