Image of The Week
According to the late racing historian Don Radbruch, this photo is of Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb at the wheel of a Case race car, circa 1911. Radbruch also reported that Cobb (1886 - 1961) was a friend of 1925 International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) Champion Fred Horey, who rode as riding mechanic for Joe Nikrent in the 1913 Indianapolis 500. An article elsewhere on First Super Speedway reported that Cobb was contracted by the Chalmers-Detroit Company to race a Chalmers-Detroit "30" in competition in October 1909.
