Ray Keech's Land Speed Record Triumph

First, we want to thank the "Paul Sheedy collection curator," who follows First Super Speedway, for this terrific contribution. You see 1929 Indianapolis 500 champion Ray Keech in the White Triplex world land speed record car. On April 22, 1928, Keech set a new land speed record of 207.55 mph at Daytona Beach. Credit Chuck Rudy, too, with the informative observation that the odd-looking extra set of wheels were only used to enable the car to move in reverse - a quirky rule at the time. Those rear-most wheels were part of what was referred to as a "reverser" section. That was detached for record runs.

Jim H. White owned the White Triplex, which was powered by three war-surplus V-12, 27-litre Liberty airplane engines. These engines provided 36 cylinders for 81 liters and delivered 1500 HP.
