Oldfield Dominates Louisville

This image of Barney Oldfield in a National was published in support of an an article in the June 10, 1909 Indianapolis Star that provided a report on the Douglas Park races in Louisville, Kentucky. The races, which occurred the day before, were hampered by rain. Oldfield, who used one of the Giants Despair Hill Climb Nationals, proved to be dominate. His times were off as at least one of the events finished in a downpour but he easily disposed a field of impressive drivers such as Lewis Strang and Johnny Aitken. Strang raced the Buick he drove at the Cobe Trophy. Oldfield had weeks earlier decided to use National Motor Vehicle Company race cars for the 1909 racing season.
