Minneapolis Motorcycle Company

This image first appeared in the August 15, 1909 Indianapolis Star. The occasion was coverage of the first motorcycle race meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This is a unique photo in that it is not of a competitor in the motorcycle meet but A.L. Kirk, secretary of the Minneapolis Motorcycle Company getting about the track on one of his company's products. Along with Indian, E.S.U. and Reading-Standard the Minneapolis was one of four bike brands to win one of the seven events at the Speedway. This came with Paul E. Koutowski who rode a Minneapolis Motorcycle to victory in the third race of the meet. This was a five-mile handicap race restricted to members of the Indiana Motorcylce Club. John McCarver, who was the second rider to arrive into Indianapolis in the endurance run from Cleveland earlier in the week, was third.
