Image of The Week
This is more of the series of original art created by David Story making its online premiere on First Super Speedway. This image is of Johnny Parsons Jr., aka "JP" and his Corvette car owner and co-driver Steve Cole, who took part in the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Brickyard Invitational race meet June 11-14, 2015 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is also part of David's Brickyard Invitational Sketchbook and given Parsons' accomplishments this image is highly relevant to David's sketches of Indianapolis 500 race cars.
The son of 1950 Indianapolis 500 winner Johnnie Parsons, Johnny earned great success in his own right with 12 Indianapolis 500 starts and best finishes of fifth in 1977 and 1985. He is a highly decorated sprint and midget driver and was voted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1994. Johnny also competed in the inaugural SVRA Indy Legends Charity Pro-Am race in 2014 again with co-driver and owner Cole. The two became fast friends and were featured in this article, "The Art of Driving" on Racer.com
Check out some of the additional Brickyard Invitational coverage First Super Speedway's Mark Dill pulled together for Racer.com in June 2015.
