Image of The Week
In this contribution from Larry Snyder, the grandson of Joe's brother Charles, we can see a picture of 1912 Indianapolis 500 winner Joe Dawson's father Chase Francis Dawson. He lived with his parents at 2828 Illinois Street in Indianapolis when he won the great race. He was not yet 23 years old and remains the second-youngest winner of the Indianapolis 500. The photo is of Chase as a young adult. Chase was born July 15 1864 near Howard, Ohio and passed away January 22, 1936 in Minneapolis. He was buried in Owosso, Michigan. He married Clara Belle Crooke in the 1880's.
Check out my article about this great auto racing champion Joseph Crooke Dawson - a man about which too little has been recorded.
