Image of The Week
First Super Speedway follower, Ross Hubbard provided these interesting photos of his grandparents somewhere in the midwest, probably in 1911.
Ross writes - "My grandparents.. he is on the right in his ‘duster’, as is my grandmother. And yes, it got sloppy! Not sure if the vehicle year, but this was likely taken around 1911, maybe? He is Ward S. Hubbard and his wife was Janet, who we always called JT, which happened to be her initials. She lived to the ripe old age of 103! Dad said that he told him that the first race (1911 "500") was too dusty/smoky and too long. He vowed not to go back, but I’m not sure that he didn’t."
To state the obvious, the images are illustrative of the state of American roads at the time. In many cases, there were simply no roads. Ross is unsure of the make and model of the car, so any help would be appreciated.
