This image was published in the June 6, 1909 Indianapolis Star. The subject is a speical award created by Carl Fisher to honor the balloon team that managed to stay aloft the longest during the the national balloon championship hosted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 5, 1909. The award was a $350 silver plate with an inlay design depicting a balloon in the clouds. This prize was eventually captured by the crew of the New York with Pilot A. Holland Forbes and aid Clifford Harmon. They remained aloft 35 hours and 10 minutes.
