Cobe Trophy Course

This image comes from a May 30, 1909, Indianapolis Star photograph. This is a picture of a stretch of road between the community of Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Lowell, Indiana which was part of the public roads course for the June 18, 1909, Indiana Trophy (support race to the June 19 main event) and the Cobe Trophy race, named after the cup donor Ira M. Cobe. These races were organized by the Chicago Auto Club with American Automobile Association (AAA) sanction. The race course was over notoriously poor public roads in northwestern Indiana between Crown Point, Indiana, and Lowell while skirting the community of Cedar Lake. For the results of these races, check out additional information elsewhere on First Super Speedway.
