What you see here is the starting field for the Altoona board track Speedway's September 1, 1924 "Fall Classic." The winner of that race was the man known as "The King of The Boards," Jimmy Murphy, who also won the 1922 Indianapolis 500 and the 1921 French Grand Prix. This is a hugely historic photo, evidenced by the margin notes that provide a tidy legend of the drivers and American Automobile Association (AAA) you can see here.
