There is a classic photo of Lewis Strang studying a model of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in March 1909. I found an outtake from that shoot that I have never seen before. It makes me wonder if the only surviving record of many of these great photos are the images embedded in microfilm. If so, I am glad to rescue this one and make it available to you.

Juvenile minds will joke about the name, but this guy could drive. Great to see old action video and an interview...

Check out what I know so far about the "Fifth Beatle" of who was almost part of the "Fab Four" that founded the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This is probably the best film/video of the first Indianapolis 500 in existence. If there is a better one, I want to see it now. Among the cars you will get a great view of are: #3 Inter-State (Harry Endicott); #45 Benz (Bob Burman); #28 Fiat (David Bruce-Brown); #18 Fiat (Eddie Hearne); #37 Mercer (Charles Bigelow); #32 Marmon (Ray Harroun); #8 Case (Joe Jagersberger); #7 Westcott (Harry Knight); #35 Apperson (Herb Lytle) and #30 Firestone-Columbus (Lee Frayer). Note that the footage of Harroun is a pit stop which is very interesting. In fact, most of the best shots are of pit stops.

One of the most iconic symbols in all of motorsports - the Pagoda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - hit an important milestone at the 2013 Indianapolis 500. The first Pagoda at the old Brickyard was placed into service just in time for the May 30, 1913 Indianapolis 500. The anniversary went unnoticed with no celebration, fanfare of any sort or even a lowly press release.

If you haven't seen this haunting piece about Eddie Sachs in 1962...well, you should. It is amazing in retrospect.

The original Glidden Tours made a huge impression on an American public still learning about automobiles. The 1908 event was no exception - except that in these days before women could vote the hero of the annual event turned out to be Joan Cuneo - the top female race driver of the era.

Ernest "Ernie" Moross was inducted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame on June 1, 2013. It is great to see one of the most fascinating characters of auto racing's early days remembered more than 100 years after he established his career as the premier promoter of this age.
