Two-Seater Ride With Louis Chevrolet

This article is an interesting point of view from the perspective of a self-admitted novice to motor racing who took a ride with one of the bravest men ever to grip a steering wheel, Louis Chevrolet. Driving the Buick he raced to victory in the Cobe Trophy just weeks earlier Chevrolet scared the stuffing out of writer Roland Mellett who confessed to being glad to feel the ground under his feet after the ride. His description of the riding down the backstretch in the dusty wake of another car on their third lap is priceless.

The article was published in the Indianapolis News on August 18, 1909 describing the event that occurred earlier that day during practice for the first auto race meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
