May 28, 1913 - Time Trials & Isottas!

05/28/2013

May 28, 1913 - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway conducted Time Trials three days before the Indianapolis 500. The purpose was for cars to prove they could turn a lap at or above the minimum average speed of 75 MPH. The cars were started in order based on luck of the draw. At long last the Isotta team arrived at the Speedway and hit the bricks. The cars immediately got up to an acceptable speed with drivers Harry Grant, Teddy Tetzlaff and Vincenzo Trucco - who doubled as team engineer - at the wheel. Defending champion Joe Dawson drove the Deltal racer - but the car showed teething problems.
