May 20 - Pilette & Others Practice

05/20/2013

May 20, 1913 - Drivers and teams at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway gave the railbirds much to chew on as they prepared for the Indianapolis 500. "Farmer" Bill Endicott and kid brother Harry let their sibling rivalry spill over onto the track. Seeing Harry leaving the pits in his Nyberg big bro Bill jumped in his Mason and hunted him down by the time they got to turn three. Fans loved it as he taunted his little brother by looking backward and making motions with his hand as if to say, "hurry up!" Meanwhile the Peugeot drivers still struggled with tire wear as they tried new lines in the turns and slowed their turn-in speeds. Belgian Theordore Pilette finally arrived at the Brickyard but other Europeans were still struggling to even get in place. The Sunbeam was "lost" by the railroad, unmarked and crated up somewhere in the shipyards. Driver Abert Guyot was not amused.
