Links to History

11/30/2009

I found a couple of links researchers and those who just enjoy immersing themselves in auto racing history should find both interesting and useful. One is a Web site dedicated to the history of the Long Island Motor Parkway in New York. A portion of the Long Island Motor Parkway was used in the design of the courses for the Vanderbilt Cup Races from 1908 through 1910. The photos of the remnants of the parkway are fascinating.

A second link is from the Horseless Carriage Foundation, an on-line library with archives of publications from the early days of the automobile and auto racing. I have yet to fully explore this, but it appears to be a useful service. It is not free of charge, however - prices for membership start at $35 and only permit a limited number of copies of articles before additional fees kick in.
