There is no city more a part of - and more defined by - auto racing than Indianapolis. The history of the city is inextricably interwoven with motorsport and for First Super Speedway investigating and understanding the history of Indianapolis is essential to piecing together the full picture of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and auto racing in general - a mission of this Web site. For this reason select articles relevant to Indianapolis history will be included in the blog portion of First Super Speedway.
 
The attached article today was published in the Indianapolis Star on May 14, 1906. It describes a wave of building demolition projects underway at the time to make was for the construction of the "new Indianapolis." Among those targeted were the Occidental Hotel, the Meridian Street M.E. Street and the Old Post Office. Although not explicitly stated in every case the article indicates that all the affected structures were erected prior to the Civil War.
