Economic Impact of the First Indy 500

Much was made of the economic impact the first Indianapolis 500 brought to the city of Indianapolis 500. The estimate was $500,000, which seemed like big money back in 1911. The front page of the June 1, 1911 Indianapolis News carried an interesting and amusing editorial cartoon. The May 31 edition of the same paper offered more analysis in an article on the same subject.
