Indianapolis Auto Manufacturers

In the nascent days of the automobile industry Indianapolis and surrounding Hoosier cities boasted a healthy number of car manufacturers. Among the better known and most successful were: Marmon, National, Premier, Marion, Stutz, and Empire of Indianapolis as well as companies like Haynes and Apperson from Kokomo.


This is a short article from May 1909 touting the success of Indianapolis manufactured automobiles at spring events, most notably the Jamaica Speed Trials ran on Long Island, New York and the Fort George Hill Climb. Among the winners were National, Premier and Marmon. This article is a direct tie-in with an advertisement Carl Fisher and Art Newby ran in the local newspapers to drive sales for National.

Joined by Alfred Reeves of the American Motor Car Manufacturers Association Howard Marmon of the Marmon Motor Car Company and creator of the the Marmon Wasp visited the Paris Auto Show in late 1907.
